“Rookies, you can come get your striped knit hat from Dan Leathers.” The colonel, Dave Woodley’s voice buzzes through the speaker at the end of the Marching Hundred’s rehearsal.  Leathers waits on the makeshift 50-yard line in the stadium parking lot. He is swarmed by freshmen juggling their instruments and music flip folders as they reach for their free hat; a few stray copies of “Tequila” are blown away by the wind in the process.

As director of the Marching Hundred for 23 years, Woodley has watched Leathers become one of the most remarkable members of the band.

mary blair-influenced poster

My poster for the Little 500 bicycle race, an annual event at Indiana University that raises money for student scholarships, was inspired by Mary Blair's iconic geometric, colorful style. I drew inspiration for character design from her sketches done for the films Saludos, Amigos and The Three Cabelleros. The background pattern was pulled from her design of "it's a small world," her most famous work and my favorite attraction. Created using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
